A Pennsylvania family charged with grand theft will face more charges since investigators have recovered a fourth stolen motorcycle.
David L. Gebert, 56, his wife Linda R. Gebert, 55, and their son Justin Gebert, 24, all of Sarver, Pa., were arrested Monday after an investigation that began when David Gebert tried to drive out of the Black Hills Harley-Davidson dealership on another man's motorcycle.
Police later found two stolen motorcycles in the Gebert's trailer, which was parked at a campground near Sturgis. Justin Gebert later rode in on a motorcycle fitted with stolen parts, police said.
Tuesday evening, the Sturgis rally Motorcycle Theft Task Force executed another search warrant at the campground, this time seizing a Ford F-350 van and flatbed trailer connected to the Geberts. Police also recovered a 2001 Harley-Davidson Screaming Eagle Fat Boy motorcycle, valued at $32,000, that was reported stolen from Black Hills Harley-Davidson on Aug. 1.
On Tuesday, David and Linda Gebert were charged with grand theft and weapons charges in Pennington County, and Justin Gebert was charged in Meade County. On Thursday, David Gebert was charged again, this time with grand theft of the 2001 Harley-Davidson recovered Tuesday. He was also charged with possession of a controlled weapon in connection with a loaded pistol equipped with a silencer that was found Monday on his motorcycle. That charge carries a penalty of two years in prison and a $2,000 fine upon conviction.
Wednesday, warrants were issued in Meade County for the arrest of David and Linda Gebert on four counts of grand theft by possessing or receiving stolen property, Meade County State's Attorney Jesse Sondreal said. Sondreal said all the grand theft charges carry the same maximum penalty upon conviction: up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
David and Linda Gebert are currently being held in Pennington County Jail. The investigation is continuing.
