BELLE FOURCHE - Hot Springs stayed in the thick of the Black Hills Conference title chase with a 20-0 shutout win over Belle Fourche Friday night.

Joe Beehler rose to the forefront by scoring three times and rushing for 202 yards on 22 carries to keep the Bison tied with the St. Thomas More Cavaliers atop the BHC standings.

Beehler scored on a 1-yard run in the first, a 77-yarder in the second and a 19-yard run in the third to account for all of the scoring.

The Bison were up to the task on the defensive side of the ball as well, limiting the Broncs to only 120 yards of total offense.

Belle also lost four fumbles in the game.

"Tonight it was a combination of things," said Belle Fourche head coach Doug Hughes.

"Beehler made some big plays for them. He shook loose for the long run and then on his last score, we had him surrounded and he still got into the end zone. He is truly an outstanding running back."

A bright spot for Belle was the hard running of Fabian Sandoval who cracked the century mark with 102 yards on 23 carries.

Hot Springs, now 5-1 and 4-0 in the BHC, will take on Wheatland, Wyo. before a Oct. 23 showdown with the Cavaliers in Hot Springs.

Belle Fourche now 2-4 and 1-3 will travel to play Cheyenne-Eagle Butte on Friday.
