LEAGUE BOWLING: Nielsen back as '700' champ; Sharkey rolls 3rd 300

Shawn "Royal" Nielsen of Rapid City defended his "700" Tournament title this past weekend at Meadowood Lanes.

Nielsen, last year's winner, started out his first game with a 299 and finished the 6-game set with a 1,532 pin total.

Second place went to Mike Sand (1,499) followed by Brent Sharkey (1,497), Howard Sharkey (1,471), Tim Sitzer (1,459), Clint Dunker (1,449), Wade Juve (1,432) with a tie for eighth-place between Tom Werner and Patty Fanter (1,430).

Brent Sharkey rolled his third sanctioned 300 game on Feb. 1 during the opening weekend of the two-week tourney.

Tournament director Bruce Rall would like to thank all the bowlers who participated in this tournament, which is held in conjunction with the RCABC City Tournament.

Men's Championship

The Meadowood YABA team, made up of members Bruce Rall, Gene Kast, Kevin Fanter, Casey Gerry, won both the handicap and scratch divisions of the 65th annual Rapid City Men's Bowling Championship Tournament that concluded last weekend at Robbinsdale Lanes.

This year's tourney has set a record for the number of team entries at 96.

RCWBA event under way

The Rapid City Women's Bowling Association championship tournament is under way at Meadowood Lanes. The tournament consists of 112 team, 151 doubles and 302 singles. The tournament will run weekends through Feb. 29.
