Rosebud gets USDA funds

ROSEBUD — The Rosebud Sioux Tribe has received a $229,500 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant for upgrades of its solid-waste equipment.
The grant will pay for a trash truck, backhoe and roll-off and rear-load containers. It also will help with garbage collection and will curb illegal trash dumping, according to a USDA news release.
Since October 2003, the tribe has collected all solid waste and hauled it to a central site near Okreek. The distance and area covered has strained existing equipment, most of which was either undersize or worn from use.
For information on available rural programs, check a local USDA Rural Development office or visit www.rurdev.usda.gov.
