Rapid City - For four years, Allen Little Eagle Sr. watched his mother battle cancer.
In 1993, doctors told Lucille Little Eagle, of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, that she had stomach cancer. The diagnosis shocked her son and family.
At her death in 1997, Lucille Little Eagle was 64.
"We've got a history of diabetes in my family, but not cancer," Allen Little Eagle said.
Little Eagle, 47, said with his mother's death, he became aware of a number of cancer illnesses, miscarriages and birth defects in the small community of Rock Creek.
He believes that the community's water supply may be what is sickening his community.
Officials meeting in Rapid City Saturday say abandon uranium mines in the area may be the culprit.
