RAPID CITY — Advanced Services Inc., a subsidiary of General Electric, will soon begin hiring 100 new workers at its Rapid City call center, Carol Bancroft, senior vice president and center manager, announced.

ASI is moving its 1-800-GE-CARES consumer answer service to Rapid City, she said. The toll-free number is available to prospective appliance buyers, current owners and others with questions about GE appliances.

The local staff, Bancroft said, will have the product knowledge about product features, colors, sizes, replacement parts and other questions consumers will have.

The new service, she said, will be a good blend with ASI's two other Rapid City businesses, warranty management and home delivery, which together employ about 250 local workers.

In warranty management, ASI staffers in Rapid City sell extended service contracts, set up service calls and handle warranty and contract questions by telephone.

Its home-delivery business involves delivery and installation for appliances sold through national retailers such as Home Depot. The staff in Rapid City makes arrangements to have new appliances delivered and set up in customer homes. The new 1-800-GE-CARES business is being moved to Rapid City from an ASI call center in Phoenix.

ASI Rapid City hopes to begin hiring and training the first new workers by Oct. 3 and complete training of the last new workers by March 3. The company is looking for rank-and-file associates, trainers, team managers, human resources staff and top leadership positions.

"It's a pretty aggressive ramp-up; we're already starting with our recruiting," she said.

If you want to apply for a job, you can fill out an application at ASI, 1450 Concourse Drive in the Rushmore Business Park.

When the new staff is on board, ASI's Rapid City center will have 350 workers, about 90 percent of the building's physical capacity, Bancroft said.

The center opened in February 1998.
