MISSION — Last week, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development acting state director Les Boehmer presented Rosebud Economic Development Corporation with a $99,990 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to support small- business development.
In a news release, Boehmer said the funds will help support the growth of entrepreneurs, foster innovation and promote sustainable economic development. USDA Rural Development area director Tim Potts and Rural Development manager David Adrian attended the event.
The grant funds, along with $50,515 in matching funds, will support growth and development of small and emerging businesses on Rosebud Indian Reservation with continuing educational efforts, short courses, workshops and business camps for adults and youth for business training, according to the news release.
Gaylene Pretty Bird, planning consultant for Rosebud Economic Development Corporation, said in the release that USDA is providing the people on the Rosebud reservation the support and funding to become self-sufficient.
The development program will use the funds for training and education, technical assistance for new and existing businesses and develop a support system at all levels for entrepreneurs who want to do business on the Rosebud reservation.
