RAPID CITY - A federal jury in a sexual harassment case awarded a New Underwood woman more than $4.1 million in damages late Friday afternoon in a ruling against the woman’s former employer, Rapid City businessman Doug Hamilton.
The jury found in favor of Celisity Klein-Cadotte and against Hamilton and his corporation, Barker & Little, Inc., for two counts of creating a sexual hostile work environment and two counts of retaliation. They found in favor of Hamilton on a fifth count of intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Klein-Cadotte said she was sexually harassed by Hamilton and then fired when she refused to sign a waiver against bringing future charges against him for such harassment. Hamilton claimed he fired her because he believed she was stealing money.
The jury deliberated for most of the day and delivered the verdict shortly after 5 p.m.
