WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Stephanie Herseth has raised about $1 million in her bid for re-election this November, and her Republican opponent has raised less than $5,000.
Bruce Whalen, the Republican running against Herseth, will not file a fundraising report for the first three months of 2006, Whalen campaign manager Lee Breard said.
A candidate must file a fundraising report if he or she has raised or spent more than $5,000, according to FEC rules.
Herseth had $631,494 in the bank at the end of March, according to her most recent fundraising report. She raised $128,059 in the first three months of the year, bringing her total raised to $994,521 since she was elected in 2004.
Whalen, the only Republican running against Herseth, officially entered the race last month.
