RAPID CITY - Rapid City Regional Hospital's Hospice of the Hills department will sponsor a national teleconference, "Pain Management at the End of Life: Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Practice," from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, in the hospital's west auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
The teleconference will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Hospice medical director Dr. David Bartsch, Hospice nurse Marie Fullenkamp, RN, Hospice chaplain Sister Susan Pohl, local counselor and Hospice social worker Ardith Sands and Hospice pharmacy consultant Brandi Tackett of PharmD.
One of the goals of the Hospice Foundation of America's teleconference is to connect professionals and consumers with important resources on pain management. The teleconference includes panelists and resources from the American Pain Foundation. APF is an independent nonprofit organization that serves people affected by pain through information, advocacy and support. It promotes recognition of pain as a critical health issue, correcting damaging myths about pain and pain management and seeking to remove the stigma often experienced by those with pain.
The national teleconference will include panelists from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Foundation, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Hospice Foundation of America, ExcelleRX and other experts. The moderator will be Frank Sesno, professor of public policy and communication at George Mason University and special correspondent with CNN.
Pre-registration for the event is requested. For more information or to register, call Regional's education and development department at 719-8015.
