NEW: White powder found at Spearfish Post Office

POSTED 05/03/06 12:15 p.m. SPEARFISH - The Spearfish Post Office was closed Wednesday morning and a hazardous materials team was called to investigate after a white powdery substance was discovered in the building.

The white powdery substance was discovered before 9 a.m. and authorities initially closed off the part of the post office where rental boxes are located.

Then, about mid-morning, authorities closed the entire post office and a hazardous materials team from Rapid City was called to investigate. Post office employees remained inside the building when it closed.

There were no reports of illness or injury, and no ambulance was present Wednesday morning.
