H.S. rodeo: Palczewski tied for bareback bronc riding lead at NHSFR

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - After Tuesday's evening performance, some South Dakotans found themselves near the top of the standings at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Paul Palczewski of Harding County is tied for first overall in bareback riding with a score of 78. Palczewski won Tuesday's morning performance.

Fellow Rancher Jet Price won the evening performance in the bareback with a score of 73. He is tied for fifth in the overall standings.

Also during Tuesday's morning performance, Highmore's Lane Stirling finished third in bull riding with an 80, Newell's Jenna Smeenk took fifth in barrel racing with a time of :17.981, and Whitewood cowboy Troy Bechen notched a sixth-place finish in bareback riding after a score of 67.

Dusti Varland of Faith won the pole bending in Monday's morning session in a time of 20.445 seconds. Varland is in seventh overall.

On Monday morning, Whitewood's Troy Crowser took second in the performance with a ride of 66 in saddle bronc. Crowser currently sits in fifth in the overall standings.

Newell Cowgirl Lacey Schuelke is tied for seventh in goat tying after a time of 8.7 seconds on Monday.

The rodeo runs through Sunday.
