BROOKINGS — Environmental training for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations is set for Wednesday, April 26, at Best Western Ramkota in Pierre.
Preregister by calling Candy at South Dakota State University at 688-5141. The registration fee is $40 per person, payable at the door. The fee includes a lunch, breaks and training materials.
Specialists from SDSU, the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service, offer the training.
The training fulfills the environmental and manure-management training requirement to obtain a livestock permit from DENR, according to a news release from SDSU.
Current federal and South Dakota water pollution control programs encourage even those livestock producers who don’t need permits to voluntarily adopt livestock production and manure management practices that protect water quality.
