Toland: Tolsma punting at DWU

Rapid City's Lyle and Marcia Tolsma were somewhat surprised when they attended last weekend's Hastings-Dakota Wesleyan football game in Mitchell last Saturday when their son, Nick, did the punting for DWU.
Tolsma, who played football at St. Thomas More and was a starting outfielder on the Rapid City Post 22 American Legion baseball team, is playing at DWU with a football and baseball scholarship. He also has a year of Legion baseball eligibility.

Here are some facts about some area collegiate football players:
* The University of Sioux Falls, the third-ranked NAIA team in the nation, is loaded with area players: LB Mac Johnson, Gregory; red-shirt LB Chris Opitz, red-shirt QB Aaron Parker, LB Max Chapman and DL Mike Hartley, Rapid City; and DL George Sperry, Blunt.
Hot Springs; DB Nate Johnson, Custer; and DB Tyler Peterson, Pierre.
* Highmore's Riley Garrigan leads the Augustana team with 17 tackles.
* Lead's Dustin Rice has 14 solo tackles and two sacks for Augustana.
* Rapid City's Tyler Spease leads the University of South Dakota with 11 tackles.
* Spearfish's Slade Larscheid is averaging 40 yards per punt (eight kicks) for Northwestern after being out with an injury last year.
* Rapid City's Matt Butler is a starting offensive guard for NAIA playoff semi-finalist Morningside College.
* Hill City's Wade Ginsbach has caught 13 passes for 105 yards in two games for Northern State.
* Rapid City's Eric Barker has been in on 12 tackles in two games for Chadron St.
Volleyball viewing
A pair of Rapid City women from opposite sides of town have become teammates for the University of Mary volleyball team.
Junior Ashley Maas, a right side-outside hitter from Rapid City Central, has been joined by freshman Katie Hogan, an outside hitter from Rapid City Stevens.
