College football: Woodhead, Eagle 'D' ranked No. 1

CHADRON, Neb. - After four games, Chadron State College's Danny Woodhead continues to lead NCAA Division II in rushing, all-purpose yards and scoring while the Eagles also lead the nation in team rushing defense.
Woodhead is averaging 208.3 yards a game rushing and has 235.5 all-purpose yards a game. Ranking second in both categories is freshman Joique Bell of Wayne State in Michigan.
Bell is averaging 195.3 yards rushing and 233.0 all-purpose yards a game. Besides playing tailback for Wayne State, Bell also returns kickoffs.
After scoring four touchdowns Saturday during the Eagles' 57-0 victory over Colorado Mines, Woodhead has scored 12 touchdowns this season for 108 points.
Bell and Germaine Race of Pittsburg State of Kansas have each scored 10 TDs through four games.
The Eagles' defense has given up just 140 yards rushing in the first four games, an average of only 35 yards a game. Tusculum College of Tennessee is second in Division II at 42 yards a game.
Chadron State also ranks fourth in rushing offense at 267.5 yards a game, sixth in total offense at 450.8 per game, seventh in scoring offense at 37.8 points a game and ninth in scoring defense, giving up 10.3 points a game.
