Dogs pulling carts, bicycles, scooters and other dryland rigs will race in the inaugural Black Hills K9 Fun Run on the Mickelson Trail near Edgemont on Nov. 18.

The run begins at the Mickelson Trail’s three-mile marker east of Edgemont.

The Edgemont Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Dogs Across America, is sponsoring the event.

The fun run will demonstrate the pulling and traveling ability of ordinary dogs, according to a chamber news release. The dogs will run distances between four and 16 miles.

Dog handlers may have their dogs harnessed to scooters, bicycles, carts and other dryland rigs.

Humans on foot may run with their dogs.

In addition to the fun run, the daylong event in Edgemont includes a dog dress-up contest, a canine police-unit demonstration, a sled-dog mushing demonstration and a Christmas bazaar.

The run begins at 9 a.m., and other events continue throughout the day at Edgemont Theatre and Edgemont City Park.
