RAPID CITY - Hopefully the merchants of Rapid City have stocked up on ibuprofen and ice, because the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is in town.

A couple of cowboys that know a thing or two about bumps, bruises and broken bones came up with some impressive performances on Friday night at the Pennington County Events Center in the Extreme Pro Rodeo put on by the PRCA.

Camp Crook's Jesse Bail and Piedmont's Josh Carter both showed that they have come a long ways back from injuries that have hampered them over the past year or two.

Bail scored an 81 on Cisco in the saddle bronc event to take the lead over a field that included cowboys such as Marvin Garrett and Red Lemmel.

"It's been a rough year," Bail said of a broken leg that didn't heal properly and took surgery to fix, before a broken wrist soon after he was back from the leg injury. "I've got a shot in the bronc riding right now, I'm just trying to win a little here and there. I feel like I'm riding good and have got a pretty good shot. Everything's going good."

Watching Carter handle his bull on Friday for a score of 82 was pretty impressive. Knowing that he has come back from a broken neck made it downright awesome.

"This is just what I love to do," Carter said when asked why he would ever get back onto a bull after such a horrible injury. "I didn't want to leave on an injury. I wanted to go out better than that."

Carter is currently in second place in the bull riding to Paul Weinberger, who scored an 87.

"I feel real good," Carter said. "I'm getting back pretty close to where I want to be, physically."

Cory Zion, of Idalia, Colo., registered a time of 9.0 seconds to take the lead in tie down roping, Dale Stoller scored an 84 to take the lead in bareback, Sherrylynn Johnson took her horse around the barrels in 16.43 seconds to take the early lead in barrel racing and Keven Daniel and Kyle Lockett notched a 4.9 second run to lead team roping.

The event will continue today with the second go at 7:30 p.m. at the Events Center.
