RAPID CITY - For the 11th time, the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo was nominated as one of the Top Five Indoor Rodeos of the Year by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

The other four nominees are rodeos in Denver and Houston, Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas.

The Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo in Rapid City was named the Top Indoor PRCA Rodeo of the Year in 2002 and 2003.

In 2005, the Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo was among the top 30 PRCA rodeos in the country in total prize money, according to a news release.

Meanwhile, preparations are under way by rodeo producer Sutton Rodeos for the 2007 Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo and PRCA Extreme Bull Riding (Division I) at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The Extreme Bull Riding will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, on the first weekend of the Black Hills Stock Show. Bull riders will compete for a purse of $40,000 plus entry fees, compared with last year's $10,000 purse for the Division II event, according to a news release from Sutton Rodeo.

On Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27, the Great Plains Indian Shoot-out rodeo will be featured.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, the Suttons again will produce the 20X Extreme High School Showcase featuring the top South Dakota high school contestants.

The Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo will run from Thursday, Feb. 1, through Sunday, Feb. 4. The seven performances typically draw many of the qualifiers for the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.
