The Days of '76 Rodeo in Deadwood has been nominated again for Rodeo of the Year in the mid-size outdoor category by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

The Days of '76 Rodeo, along with five others, was selected from hundreds of mid-sized outdoor rodeos, according to Jon Mattson, a director on the Days of '76 Rodeo Committee.

The Deadwood rodeo will be competing with rodeos in Sheridan, Wyo.; Bremerton, Wash.; Ogden, Utah; and Phillipsburg, Kan.

The winner will be announced at the PRCA convention Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Las Vegas just prior to the start of the National Finals Rodeo.

"We've won it every year we've been nominated, with the exception of one year," Mattson said.

The Days of '76 Rodeo won the Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year award four times, beginning in 1998.

The Deadwood rodeo went to the medium outdoor category three years ago, and won the national award the first two years, 2004 and 2005, Mattson said.

The nominations and awards are voted on by PRCA contestants, contract acts and other rodeo committees.

The Days of '76 Rodeo began in 1923.

The Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo in Rapid City was nominated as Indoor Rodeo of the Year, and the Crystal Springs Ranch Rodeo in Clear Lake was nominated as Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. Both are produced by Sutton Rodeo Inc. of Onida.
