PIERRE -- A grand jury in Campbell County has indicted an Eagle Butte man who stands accused of assaulting a state trooper.
According to authorities, Jeremy DeCoteau, 26, faces charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and attempted second-degree murder.
DeCoteau was arrested after a March 18 incident near Mobridge during which a state trooper was injured, law officers said.
DeCoteau and two others were in a vehicle that was stopped by the trooper, who was arresting DeCoteau for a North Dakota parole violation when a scuffle broke out, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
DeCoteau and Sydney Garreau, 28, of Eagle Butte ran off, and DeCoteau was captured. Garreau is still being sought on federal warrants, authorities said.
The trooper was injured and is recovering.
DeCoteau will be arraigned April 10. He is in the Walworth County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, according to Mark Kroontje, Campbell County state's attorney.
