Area Scene: Post 320 to host Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run for area youth

RAPID CITY - Post 320 Stars baseball team will host a free Pepsi Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition for area youth ages 7-14 on April 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Pete Lien Memorial Field.
Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. Competitors will be divided into four age divisions and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2007 MLB All-Star Game.
The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition, will be awarded and advance to the sectional competition.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration and waiver form before the start of the competition.

DWU names women's basketball coach
MITCHELL - Aaron Kahl was named the head women's basketball coach at Dakota Wesleyan University on Wednesday.
Kahl comes to Dakota Wesleyan from Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, where he has been an assistant basketball coach for six seasons. He helped lead the women's team to a MIAC Championship and a national tournament appearance in 2002-03.
During his time with the women's team, they had a 99-34 overall record. As an assistant coach, the Inwood, Iowa, native was the recruiting coordinator for the basketball teams.
Kahl replaces Ann Konechne, a former South Dakota Mines standout, who resigned at the end of this past season.
Youth trapshooting league begins April 11
RAPID CITY - The Rapid City Trap Club will be hosting a Youth Trapshooting League this spring for young men and women in grades 6-12.
The league will compete Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for five weeks starting on April 11. The cost is $15 per week and includes shells, targets and instruction. Each shooter will need their own 12- or 20-gauge shotgun, but a few guns will be available for use at the club.
The club selects members of the league to join the Scholastic Clay Target Program for trapshooting and skeet. These teams have won state and
national championships.

Lynx standout named Player of the Year
Dale Moss of Brandon Valley High School was named the 2006-07 Gatorade South Dakota Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-4 senior guard averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game this season to lead the Lynx to a 23-2 record and the district quarterfinals. Moss was also the Keloland Player of the Year and an Eastern South Dakota all-
conference player for the second consecutive season.
Moss will attend South Dakota State University on a basketball scholarship this fall.
Post 320 hosting youth baseball clinic April 12
RAPID CITY - The Rapid City Post 320 baseball team with host a youth clinic from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, April 12.
The clinic will take place at Rapid City Central High School. There is no cost to take part. Instruction will be provided by players and coaches from the Post 320 baseball team.

Tickets available for Hall of Fame banquet
SIOUX FALLS - Tickets are on sale for the 2007 South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame banquet to be held Saturday, April 14, at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
Ten people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, brining the membership to 177.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. To receive the discounted price, tickets must be paid for in advance, and must be purchased no later than, Wednesday, April, 11.
