Boston Marathon: Weber, Yanni register quick times

Two area runners - Edith Weber and Amy Yanni - led a strong contingent of South Dakota runners Monday with their top-20 age group finishes at the 111th Boston Marathon.

Weber, 76, finished 13th in her age group. The Piedmont runner posted a time of 6 hours, 7 minutes and 24 seconds. Weber placed 20,262nd overall.

Yanni, 53, of Rapid City finished 19th in her age group, clocking in at 3:34:24. She finished 6,541st overall and 1,164th in the women's division.

The husband-and-wife twosome of Fred and Priscilla Romkema ran at Boston again this year. Fred Romkema, 59, posted a time of 3:58:09 to place 12,582nd overall and 1,606th overall. Priscilla Romkema, 48, covered the course in 4:08:16 to finish 1,520th in her age group and 14,376th overall.

Rapid City runner Barbara Schulz, 61, finished 31st in her age group and 16,435th overall after posting a time of 4:24:28.

Eighteen runners from across South Dakota competed Monday in conditions that were rainy at the start of the race and windy at the end.

Gregg Uecker, 45, of Freeman finished 104th in his age group and 572nd overall to post the fast time among the state's 18 runners. Uecker posted a time of 2:55:12, the lone South Dakota to break the 3-hour barrier.

Owen Hotvet, 53, of Sioux Falls finished 75th in his age group with a time of 3:12.30. Hotvet placed 2,198th overall.

Another Sioux Falls runner, Mark Heider, 25, finished in 3:15:02 to place 1m593rd in his division and 2,577th overall.

Matt Bien of Brookings covered the 26.2-mile run in 3:19:51 to place 1,923rd in his age group and 3,381 overall.

John Rodman, 40, of Sioux Falls finished in 3:21:12 to place 3,620th overall and 1,058th in his division.

Jacqui Scoular, 26, of Sioux Falls posted a time of 3:39:32 to place 1,328th in her age group and 7.841st overall.

Jay Larsen, 55, of Brookings, placed 982nd in his age group after running the course in 3:43:43. He finished 8,905th overall.

Rick Hanson, 59, of Sioux Falls placed 996th in his age group and 8,986 overall after clocking in with a time of 3:43:58.

Leah Ohme, 28, of Sioux Falls had a time of 3:51:32 to place 2,275th in her division and 10,896th overall.

Kristen Johnston, 36, of Sioux Falls finished in 4:00:33 to place 2,861 in her age division and 13,120 overall.

John Van Veldhuizen, 57, of Sioux Falls timed in at 4:07:44 to finish 1,867th in his age group and 14,294th overall.

Ka Cey Struckman, 27, of Sioux Falls placed 3,649th in her division and 16,803rd overall with a time of 4:27:59.
