College golf: Bentley, BH tops at Mines

RAPID CITY - Black Hills State, led by individual medalist Jamie Bentley, rallied to overtake Jamestown College at the South Dakota Mines Invitational played at Meadowood Golf Course on Monday.

Dickinson State held on by the slimmest of margins in the men's division, while Black Hills State rallied to capture the women's division.

The Yellow Jackets marked a 382 over the two-day meet, while Bentley improved on her first day score of 85 by three strokes to lead all golfers with a 167.

Megan Fisher of Dickinson State was second with a 170, with Lisa Steever of South Dakota Mines finishing third with a score 173.

The Blue Hawks tallied 776 strokes for second place, while Mines finished in third place with an 819.

Bentley was in a three-way tie with Dickinson State's Fisher and Lyndsey Kent after Sunday's round.

In the men's division, Dickinson State held off Minot State 621-622 to win the team title. Jamestown College was third at 650, followed by Mines, a stroke back at 651.

The Blue Hawks held a 306-307 advantage after Sunday's first day of play. The two teams then battled to a draw on Monday as they had matching 315 scores.

Individually, T.J. Poulsen of Dickinson State shot a 152 to edge Jordan Kelly of Minot State, who fired a 153.

Hank Tanner and Quentin Patterson shot 159s to lead the 'Rockers.
