MADISON - Lead-Deadwood's Dani Bellet claimed medalist honors and the Golddiggers also won the team title at the Madison Invitational on Thursday at Madison Country Club.

Bellet carded an 80 to win by seven.

"Considering the conditions (windy and cold), I thought Dani's 80 was exceptional," Lead-Deadwood assistant coach Rob Hafer said.

The 'Diggers won by 36 strokes with a 345 total.

"I think that all the girls just really showed a lot of patience with the conditions today," Hafer noted.

"When they had a bad hole, they did not let that get to them."

West Central took second at 381, Aberdeen Roncalli was third with a 412, and Dell Rapids, Vermillion and Flandreau tied for fourth at 413.

Individually, Lead-Deadwood's Tara Hofer and Cara Liesinger of West Central tied for second with 87s. 'Digger Jenessa Rantapaa, West Central's Abby Feehan and Madison's Kelly Wilkens tied for fourth at 88.

Lead-Deadwood's other scores came from Cassy Rantapaa (90) and Ellise Nichols (101).

The state Class A will be at Madison Country Club on May 21-22.

"It was good to come to the east side of the state and see some of the teams that the girls would see at the state tournament on that course," added Hafer.

"I think West Central is one of the favorites at state. It was good to see them there and see how we stand."
