College golf: Midland Lutheran ahead at Region III tourney

OXBOW, N.D. - Midland Lutheran College is the first-day leader in the chase for the men's title, while Dakota Wesleyan University leads the women's at the NAIA Region III golf championships played at the Oxbow Country Club on Monday.
Midland Lutheran finished with 295 strokes followed by Sioux Falls 304, Minot State 306, Hastings College 310 and Morningside College 314.
Ron Harder and Jason Zoz each shot 73s to lead Midland.
Dakota Wesleyan's team total of 338 was 38 strokes better than Midland Lutheran's 364 in the women's division.
Hastings College 370 was third with Northwestern College 371 fourth and Black Hills State fifth at 379.
Individually, Michaela Carew of Briar Cliff and Kelli Baseley of Dakota Wesleyan had 80s to lead the pack.
Black Hills State's Jamie Bentley carded an 82, which left her tied for third place with DWU's Heather Snavely.
Lisa Steever of South Dakota Mines finished in a tie for ninth place with an 88 over the opening 18 holes.
