Area Scene: Dynamic Martial Arts hosts seminar

FarkRAPID CITY — Dynamic Martial Arts will host its second master series martial arts seminar featuring grand master George Alexander today.
The seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Black Hill Workshop Gymnasium.
Alexander is known worldwide as one of the leading experts in several martial arts systems. He holds a 10th degree black belt in Shorin Ryu Karate and Shorinji Ryu JuJitsu. He is also a master swordsman.
Alexander is the Master of instructor of Mutch Usera. “It is a special treat to have George Alexander visit Rapid City and our martial arts students,” said Mutch Usera, a seventh degree black belt at Dynamic Martial Arts. “George will be conducting his art to the participants as well as working with the Black Belt students on their development.”

Athletes will serve dinner on a diamond
SPEARFISH — Spearfish Post 164 will host a Dining on the Diamond fundraiser Monday at Black Hills Corporation Stadium.
The dinner will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be served by players from the Post 164 baseball team. Tickets are available at the gate. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.
Cross country team hosts walk in Sturgis
STURGIS — The Sturgis cross country team will be hosting the second Rockin’ Sturgis 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 23.
The race is run on an out-and-back route through the park on the Sturgis bike path. The $20 entry fee includes a T-shirt, water bottle and post-race dinner.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. at the Knuckle Saloon. There will be a kids 1K race at 5 p.m. The 5K will begin at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Sturgis High School cross country program.

Olympians will teach at local swim clinic
RAPID CITY — The Mutual of Omaha Breakout Swim Clinic will be June 21 at Horace Mann Pool.
Olympians Josh Davis and Rachel Komisarz will lead four-hour clinic which begins at 1 p.m. The clinic is for swimmers ages 8-18. The cost is $35.
Davis and Komisarz will lecture and give an in-water demonstration and instruction on swim strokes and techniques. The swimming champions will be available for autographs and photos at the end of the clinic.

Jamestown’s Paulson voted AD of the year
DICKINSON, N.D. — Lawrie Paulson of Jamestown College as the DAC Athletic Director of the Year for the 2006-07 year.
Paulson took over the athletic director position in 2004 after spending 19 seasons as the Jimmies’ women’s basketball coach. While leading the Lady Jimmies, Paulson compiled a 279-230 record, was named conference coach of the year five times, captured five conference titles and advanced to the national tournamnent once.
The Jimmies finished second to Dickinson State for the Commissioner’s Cup, awarded to the school with the best overall finish in conference-sponsored competition.
Jamestown also had its baseball and softball teams advance to the Region III tournament, football team qualify for the national playoffs and women’s cross country team receive an at-large invitation to the national meet.
