Honored: William “Bill” P. Landers, a registered nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital, recently won the hospital’s 2006 George S. Mickelson Award for Nursing Excellence. He has worked at the hospital for 30 years. After the death of Governor Mickelson and seven others in a 1993 plane crash, the hospital got permission from the governor’s widow, Linda Mickelson, to establish a nursing award in his name. Each year, a hospital committee selects a hospital nurse to receive the Mickelson award. It recognizes outstanding work performance, professional contributions, commitment to self-improvement, and behavior which supports hospital activities, policies and procedures.
New staff: Great Western Bank in Rapid City announced two staff additions to its mortgage department. M. Tyler Thorton, a mortgage loan originator, recently graduated from National American University in Rapid City. Pamela K. Selberg-Peterson is assistant vice president-mortgage originator. She has more than 25 years of banking experience, 17 of them in mortgage banking.
Joined: Rushmore Mortgage in Rapid City announced that Trent Knight has joined the staff as a mortgage originator. Knight is a long-time resident of Rapid City and the Black Hills, and he has 17 years of customer-service experience.
Named: Jean Smith of Ketel Thorstenson accounting and consulting firm in Rapid City has been named president of the 790-member South Dakota Certified Public Accountants Society. In addition, Lonnie Hosman of DeSmet & Biggs accounting firm in Rapid City was named to the board of directors. The group also honored Terry Nemec, formerly of Rapid City, with its distinguished service award. He is now with KMWF & Associates in Sioux Falls and Dell Rapids.
New board: The Zonta Club of the Black Hills has named officers and directors for 2007-2008. Officers are president Margo Julius, president-elect Andrea Hovey, vice president Jo Prang, recording secretary Lillian Boes, corresponding secretary Susan Geisel, treasurer Robin Albers, assistant treasurer (meals) Melinda Doyle and assistant treasurer (Zonta EXPO) Bev Buckingham. Directors are Bev Ambrose, Laura Neubert, Lisa Wesolick, Karen Barkl, Falon Sandness and Verlyn Veal.
Awarded: Curves, the fast-growing fitness franchise, announced that Box Elder Curves in Box Elder was the Grand Prize winner of the National Campaign Dove Contest. Box Elder Curves had the highest percentage of members participate and won a new workout machine. Box Elder Curves opened in June 2003. Lynette Epp, the current owner, took over the club February 2006.
Earned: Two black-belt instructors at Dynamic Martial Arts in Rapid City were recently promoted to their next black belt levels in the art of Jukite JuJitsu during a testing event at DMA. Jarrett Breuninger, 31, was promoted to third-degree black belt. He has been studying JuJitsu for about 15 years and is a head instructor at DMA. Josh Usera, 27, was promoted to fourth-degree black belt. He is now recognized as a Master in the JuJitsu.
Staff honors: The Minerva’s Catering and Banquet Department named Dave Morrison its employee of the month for April. Also, Gary Littlehoop was the employee of the month for May.
Top sales: The Real Estate Group in Rapid City named Lynn Livingston its top producer for May. … Prudential Kahler Realtors announced that Linda Rausch had top sales for May. … Four Seasons Sports Center announced that Jason Penticoff had top sales in April and May.
