Kroeger hangs on to Ward 4 seat by 25 votes

FarkRAPID CITY -- Ward 4 incumbent Ron Kroeger hung onto his Rapid City Council seat in Tuesday's runoff election. He garnered 408 votes, or 51.6 percent, to challenger Lori Hadley's 383 votes, or 48.4 percent.
Kroeger and Hadley were the top vote-getters in a four-way Ward 4 race in the June 5 election. Kroeger didn't win a majority, prompting Tuesday's runoff.
Kroeger, 58, a Realtor, has been on the council 10 years. He campaigned on his City Hall experience and record of representing the ward he has lived in for 48 years.
"Things of serious consequence are coming to Rapid City, and I'm excited to be a part of it," Kroeger said Tuesday night.
He conceded that his narrow victory shows a lot of voters in Ward 4 have concerns and want to see changes at City Hall.
Hadley, 41, is a full-time student at National American University. She campaigned on fiscal responsibility and the need for infrastructure improvement in Ward 4, which covers a broad swath of North Rapid.
The turnout in Ward 4, with 791 votes cast, was considerably lighter than in the June 5 election, when 1,145 votes were cast.
