STURGIS -- The Meade County school bus driver charged in March with molesting a 10-year-old girl pleaded guilty Monday to having sexual contact with the girl.

Stanton Day, 65, of Summerset pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual contact with a child younger than 16 and three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Day admitted the sexual contact took place on two occasions between September 2006 and March 2007.

It took place on the school bus Day drove when that bus was parked in a subdivision on his route.

Up until his arrest, Day was a school bus driver in Meade School District for more than 15 years.

In exchange for Day's guilty plea, Meade County State's Attorney Jesse Sondreal dismissed six counts of first-degree rape.

Fourth Circuit Judge Warren Johnson set bond for Day at $15,000. If he bonds out, Day must be constantly supervised by his wife or two sons and can have no contact with anyone younger than 16, except for family members.

Day will be sentenced Aug. 27 after a pre-sentence investigation and psychosexual evaluation.

Day faces up to 36 years in prison.

Each count of sexual contact with a child younger than 16 is a class 3 felony and carries a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison. Those counts each carry a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison.

Each count of sexual exploitation of a minor is a class 6 felony, carrying a maximum possible sentence of two years.

Day must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
