Toland: R.C.'s Schultz excels in track, on diamond

Cleaning off my desk:

- Rapid City’s Christy Schultz placed third in the 100 and 200 and fifth in the softball throw in the 13-14 age division at the State Hershey Track and Field meet in Watertown, then 2005. She proved that was not a fluke when she duplicated that feat at the Northern State University team camp.

- The 2007 high school football schedules are available on the South Dakota High School Activities Association Web site.

- It’s hard to believe, but the high school soccer season starts Aug. 17 for Rapid City Central, St. Thomas More and Douglas and the following day for Rapid City Stevens.

- Torrington, Wyo., withdrew from this weekend’s Post 22 Marshall Tubbs Classic, forcing some changes in the schedule.

- Jim Noyes resigned his head girls basketball position at Huron High School to take a position at Rapid City Central.

- Several people have asked about the status of the head football position at Rapid City Central.

- Tea Area, which started as a nine-man football team four years ago, have now moved up to Class 11B.

- St. Thomas More football coach Wayne Sullivan likes his team’s move from 11B to 11A. “It will be a privilege to play those East River powerhouses like West Central, Dell Rapids and Canton,” he said. “They’ve set the bar for ‘11A’ football and they’re where we want our program to go.”

- Dick Hansen, one of the founders of the Hansen & Anderson Prep Preview book and Hansen & Anderson Basketball camps, passed away over the weekend at the age of 63.

- Mark Mendel started a new amateur baseball team this summer, the Angels, in memory of his grandmother.

- Bob Laskowski asked, and here’s the answer: Post 22 went two-and-out in the state tournament in 2004.

- The South Dakota State U. football team is ranked in the top 25 of six NCAA Division I Subdivision preseason polls.
