Hardrocker, Maverick players of the week

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — National American’s Daniela Oliviera and South Dakota Mines’ Jenny Hiykel each received weekly volleyball honors from NAIA Region III for the week of Sept. 10-16.

Oliviera, a 5-foot-9 right-side hitter, was named Player of the Week. The junior from Campinas, Brazil, averaged 6.76 kills per game in being named the MVP of the Hastings College-Quality Hotel Classic.

The fourth-ranked Mavericks (14-2) went 4-0 in the tournament, with all of their wins coming over ranked or receiving votes teams in the NAIA poll. Oliviera also had 33 digs and eight solo blocks.

Hiykel, a 5-foot-1 sophomore from Omaha, Neb., was named the Libero of the Week. She averaged 8.62 digs per game and went 94-for-97 on serve receive. Hiykel also added three service aces for the Hardrockers, who went 3-0 during the week to move their season record to 13-1.

In addition, Hiykel was also named the Dakota Athletic Conference Libero of the Week.

Mines has a pair of conference matches on the road this week, traveling to Dakota State on Friday and Jamestown College on Saturday.
