He's a Ben & Jerry's flavor (Willie Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler Ice Cream), he's an author ("The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart") and he's an American icon.

A founding member of the "outlaw country" movement in the 1970s, Willie Nelson, now 74, is still going strong. His local performance, originally scheduled for July, was rescheduled for this month due to exhaustion.

The Sept. 26 show was briefly canceled; then, it was announced that the show would go on and, as of news deadline, Nelson was still planning to play.

His hits have spanned the decades, including such memorable tunes as "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," "On the Road Again," "Always On My Mind" and the 2003 duet "Beer for my Horses" with Toby Keith.

Earlier this year, he released "Last of the Breed," a two-disc collaboration on Lost Highway Records with Merle Haggard and Ray Price.

Known as much for his long hair and political activism with Farm Aid and NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) as for his trend-setting music, Nelson has recorded numerous platinum albums over his long career and worked with artists as diverse as Latin sensation Julio Iglesias and folk star Bob Dylan, as well as joining country legends Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash in the hit-generating 1980s group The Highwaymen.
