VERMILLION — Louie Krogman of White River has signed a national letter of intent to continue an academic and athletic career at the University of South Dakota.

Krogman, who is regarded as one of the most prolific scorers in South Dakota high school history, has been a starter for White River High School since he was in eighth grade. During his

career, the 6-foot-1 guard has compiled 2,653 points and is 147 points away from the state record for career points.

Krogman is coming off of a stellar junior season in which he led the state in scoring with 32.1 points per game. During his junior season, he also dished out 4.7 assists and grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game.

During his career, he has been selected to the all-state first team twice, all-conference first team four times and was a member of the state Class B tournament all-tourney team. After the 2006-07 season, he was named the Argus Leader player of the year.

Krogman was also an all-state football player the past two seasons.

South Dakota, which is coming off of a 23-7 season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, opens the 2007-08 season on Saturday when it hosts Dana College at 7 p.m. MST, at the DakotaDome. The Coyotes will begin conference play on Jan. 12 when they travel to Augustana College.

Danielle Bellet inks with Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL — Danielle Bellet has signed a letter of intent to compete for Dakota Wesleyan during the

2008-09 season.

Bellet, a senior at Lead-Deadwood High School, is a two-time South Dakota all-state golfer. She placed third at the South Dakota state Class A golf tournament as a sophomore in 2006 and finished fifth at the 2007 state tournament as a junior.  She was the conference champion as a sophomore and placed third as a junior. Last season, she placed first at the region meet after taking fifth place as a sophomore.

Bellet had a stroke average of 82 as a junior, and has been a part of three straight state Class A championship teams at Lead-Deadwood.

“Danielle is one of the top three senior high school girls in the whole state of South Dakota for golf, and an all-state player at the Class A level, so she is a wonderful recruit for our women’s golf program,” Dakota Wesleyan golf coach Adam Anderson said. “I am extremely excited for Danielle choosing DWU.  She will have a great college golf career and attain a wonderful education.”

Bellet, a native of Lead, placed first in the second flight of the 2007 South Dakota Women’s Amateur Championship in Mitchell.  She is also ranked No. 2 in her class out of 70 students and has made the honor roll for three years. She is the daughter of Les and Cindy Bellet of Lead.

“I am most proud of Danielle for being a leader in her school, community and on her golf team,” Anderson added. “She leads by example, and that’s exactly what we look for. She has a very bright future at Dakota Wesleyan.”
