A project in Spearfish Canyon to remove excess rock from the canyon wall near Bridal Veil Falls will begin in December and last about four weeks, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
The removal of the excess rock will require regular closures of Spearfish Canyon Road, U.S. Highway Hwy 14A. During the majority of the work, traffic will be permitted to pass through Spearfish Canyon every hour on the hour. Closures during blasting and cleanup operations are anticipated to last up to eight hours.
Signs at each end of the canyon will give advance notice of the blasting.
