Photographer Becky Morgan wanted a sign for her business, B. Morgan Photography, that would draw lots of attention.

She got it, and then some.

Her sign, created by Conrad’s Big C Signs in Rapid City, was the subject of a recent feature story in Sign Builder Illustrated, an industry publication.

The sign was based on Morgan’s own design for her business card. It features curves, squares, eyes and colorful geometric shapes.

Conrad’s graphic designer Jeri Kalvin converted the artwork to tubes and lines, and Morgan fell in love with the design, according to the SBI story. Conrad’s Pat Hight created the actual sign, bending the glass tubes into the intricate forms of the design.

The sign was installed at Morgan’s studio, 5312 Sheridan Lake Road.

When the sign was completed, Karen Jacob of Conrad’s sent an e-mail to several trade publications to show off the neon creation.

“Jeff Wooten, the editor of SBI, e-mailed me back within 15 minutes, asking if they could do a feature article,” Jacob said. “Of course, I said yes.”

If you don't see your comment, perhaps...

  • you called someone an idiot, a racist, a dope, a moron, etc. Please, no name-calling or profanity (or veiled profanity -- #$%^&*).
  • you rambled, failed to stay on topic or exhibited troll-like behavior intended to hijack the discussion at hand.
  • YOU SHOUTED YOUR COMMENT IN ALL CAPS. This is hard to read and annoys readers.
  • you named a business or identified a business in a way good or bad. Contact the business directly with your customer service concerns or your praise – they’ll likely appreciate your feedback.
  • you believe the newspaper's coverage is unfair. It would be better to write Jerry Steinley at jerry.steinley@rapidcityjournal.com or call him at 394-8427. This is a forum for community discussion, not for media criticism. We'd rather address your concerns directly.
  • you included an e-mail address or phone number, pretended to be someone you aren't or offered a comment that makes no sense.
  • you accused someone of a crime or assigned guilt or punishment to someone suspected of a crime.
  • your comment is in really poor taste.
