Men's basketball: South Dakota routs Hastings

VERMILLION — Sophomore Tyler Cain set a school record with 10 blocked shots Monday as South Dakota overwhelmed Hastings College 95-48 in the Coyotes' final nonconference men's basketball game of the season.
Cain, who also grabbed six rebounds, moved into second place on the school's blocked shot list.
USD (15-1), which is ranked third in the NCAA Division II poll, was coming off its only loss of the season. The Coyotes put together a 29-3 run in the first half and coasted to a 44-18 halftime lead over the Broncos (16-4).
Hastings is ranked No. 15 in the latest NAIA men's basketball poll, but the Broncos have lost four of their last five games.
Dylan Grimsley led all scorers with 20 points. Nick Morrell had 14, Mitch Begeman 11 and Eric Hall 10.
The Coyotes shot 47 percent from the field and outrebounded the Broncos 52-37.
Hastings was just 3-for-13 from the free throw line and shot 33 percent from the field. It shot 21 percent in the first half. The Broncos made only three of 23 3-point attempts.
Hastings was led by Bobby Kempf with 12 points.
