RAPID CITY — Marvin Heesacker of Spearfish won a 2008 Dodge quad-cab truck at the Living-Large team roping event at Empty Acres Arena at Buckeye, Ariz., on Jan. 5.
Among 736 team ropers, he placed two times in the top 5 and was able to accumulate enough points to create a tie for high-point roper.
A rope-off on three head of steers was designated as the tie breaker for the grand-prize.
Heesacker went on to dominate the rope-off with the assistance of his cousin, Ryan Routier, as his header. Heesacker was then awarded the truck, cash and other prizes.
Heesacker is a junior at Black Hills State University, and he has been on the Deans List each semester. He competes in rodeos for the Black Hills State University rodeo team and is vice-president of the rodeo club.
