SPEARFISH -- The South Dakota Department of Transportation has released its work schedule on Spearfish Canyon through Monday, Jan. 28.
The tentative road closing schedule for U.S. Highway 14A through Spearfish Canyon for this weekend and early next week is as follows:
- Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26 –- Traffic allowed through at the beginning of each hour during daylight hours. Roadway fully open for nighttime traffic.
- Sunday, Jan. 27 -– Roadway open.
- Monday, Jan. 28 –- Roadway closed as crews continue blasting operations, reopening later that day following cleanup.
The schedule is tentative, and the status of the road depends on weather conditions and work progress each day, the agency said in a prepared release.
For the most current information, motorists should call 641-5446 or tune to a radio to AM 1670. Because of spotty radio reception, residents above Bridal Veil Falls are encouraged to use the phone line to get information.
Signs will also be placed at both ends of Spearfish Canyon notifying motorists when the road is closed.
According to the transportation department, travelers should use Exit 17 and U.S. Highway 85 through Lead and Deadwood to access areas in Spearfish Canyon above Bridal Veil Falls during the closings.
Businesses in Spearfish Canyon will not be affected by the work.
