PIERRE - A Minnesota business plans to set up shop in Pierre and hire as many as 200 people.

Eagle Creek Software Services could begin hiring in March and use a temporary building. A new building should be ready by fall.

Gov. Mike Rounds said Eagle Creek plans to hire young college graduates. The firm is impressed by college graduates in South Dakota, he said.

"While some companies are looking at taking these types of skilled jobs overseas ... we have very talented and capable individuals in South Dakota," the governor said.

"This dynamic company will be hiring 21- to 25-year-old college graduates," Rounds said. "Eagle Creek will be a great addition to South Dakota's corporate leaders."

The company provides management solutions and analytical services for a variety of industries across the nation and around the world. It specializes in implementing and integrating Oracle customer relationship management software.

Eagle Creek Software is headquartered at Minnetonka, Minn.

"South Dakota produces the highest-quality students through the university system, and we know they can compete worldwide against anybody," said Ken Behrendt, chief executive officer of the firm.

"We can implement, through training, the most sophisticated projects in the world, and it can be done right here in Pierre," Behrendt said.

Pierre Mayor Dennis Eisnach said landing the new company is good news for the town. Other than the services and retail sectors, most jobs in the capital are with state government.

"This has the potential to be a real catalyst for our community," Eisnach said.
