Boys basketball: Sims named as all-GDC

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Central’s Evan Sims was the lone West River boys basketball player named to the 2008 Greater Dakota Conference all-conference first team.

Joining Sims on the first team are Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Anthony Muilenburg and Almir Krdzalic, Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Isaac Jorgenson and Cody Larson, and Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Alex Scholten.

Jorgenson, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, was the second highest rebounder at the state AA tournament last weekend with 32. Larson was the only sophomore to make first team.

Sioux Falls Lincoln’s head coach Robin Burgard was named GDC coach of the year. The Patriots finished with the best GDC record with 11 wins and one loss. Lincoln took third place in the state AA tournament and finished the season 20-5 overall.

Sturgis’ Tyler Hinker and Spearfish’s Justin Kemp were named to the second team.

Also making the second team were Jake Wiess of Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Ryan Jans and Riley Conklin of S.F. Washington, and Derek Carlson of S.F. Lincoln.

Brock Estes and Sam Wolff, both junior guards for Rapid City Stevens, were named honorable mention. Jordan Johnson of Spearfish and Thomas Nettleton of Sturgis also made honorable mention.

Second team — Jake Weiss, S.F. Roosevelt; Tyler Hinker, Sturgis; Ryan Jans, S.F. Washington; Justin Kemp, Spearfish; Riley Conklin, S.F. Washington; Derek Carlson, S.F. Lincoln.

Honorable Mention — Adol Aluong and Colin Strasburg, S.F. Roosevelt; Levi Smith, Scott Ritter, S.F. Washington; Brett Anderson, S.F. Lincoln; Brock Estes and Sam Wolff, R.C. Stevens; Danny Hughes, Joe Palmitier and Will Powell, S.F. O’Gorman; Thomas Nettleton, Sturgis; Jordan Johnson, Spearfish.
