RAPID CITY — Former Rapid City Post 22 American Legion baseball standout Jeff Andrews is the new pitching coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Before being named to the major league position last November, Andrews was a minor league pitching coach and coordinator for the past 22 years, the last five years in the Pirates’ organization, including two years at Triple-A Indianapolis and three years at Double-A Altoona.

Andrews has also served as pitching coach for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the Independent Northern League, and has also worked in minor league farm systems of the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.

Andrews is a 1977 graduate of Rapid City Stevens. He played baseball for Rapid City Post 22 and college ball at East Tennessee State University.

Andrews was a freshman pitcher on ETSU’s 1978

Ohio Valley Conference Championship team, and also led the team to the Southern Conference title and into the NCAA Regional playoffs as a junior in 1980.

Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 26th round of the 1981 June draft, Andrews pitched two years in the Cubs farm system, compiling a 10-6 record with Geneva (1981) and Salinas (1982).
