College golf: Chadron women, Minot men take early lead

RAPID CITY – The Chadron State College women’s golf team has a tight grip on the top spot after day one of the Hardrocker Golf Invite at Meadowbrook Golf Course. The Eagles blistered the course for a team score of 350 to hold a 29-stroke lead over second place Jamestown College. Black Hills State University is in fourth place with a total of 394 and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology shot 451.

Allyson Malzahn led the Eagles with a round of 82 which was the best on the women’s side. Teammate Caitlin Parker was right behind with an 82 followed by Leslie Mueller’s 91 and Alissa Peterson’s 93.

Black Hills State was paced by Katelynn Lamb, who fired a 96 and Anne Langdell shot 98 for the two sub-100 rounds for the Yellow Jackets. Katie Campbell shot 100 as did Tamara Haines.

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology was led by Kajda Stevens who shot 110, Jade Herman had a 111 and Stephanie Leber carded a 113.

Minot State took the lead on the men’s side with a 317 after day one while SDSM&T shot 342 to finish in fifth place.

Sam Hermanson led the way for the Hardrockers with an 83 and that was followed by Brandon Eisenbraun’s 85, Ricky Clausen’s 86 and Don DeGooyer’s 88.

Justin Aberle of Minot State had the low round of day one with a 74 on his card.

The invite concludes with another round of golf today. Golfers are set to tee off at 10 a.m.
