College track & field: Hellman wins 100-meter hurdles at U of Mary’s Marauder Open

BISMARCK, N.D. — The Black Hills State University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed against several strong squads at the Maurader Open in Bismarck, N.D. on Sunday.
Shannon Hellman had the lone win for the Yellow Jackets as she blew past the competition in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.83 crossing the finish line a full second ahead of the runner-up.
Alicia Verhulst was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run in 10:54.91, and added a top three performance in the 1,500 by shaving nearly eight seconds off her seed time to finish in 5:02.44.
Ashlee Della Silva finished fifth in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes for BHSU while Kelley Aline matched that result in the 800 posting a time of 2:23.48 and Nikki Shinkle took fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.01.
The Yellow Jackets’ also recorded third place finishes in the 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relays.
Cody Bordewyk led a solid distance showing for the Yellow Jackets’ men finishing third in the 1,500 in 4:00.56 and teammate Mark Mazza was close behind in fifth with a time of 4:02.96.
BHSU had three finishers in the top nine of the 3,000 led by Neil Long in seventh, Birch Haraden took eighth and K.C. Fiedler was ninth.
Brett Montieth ran a 51.53 to finish fourth in the 400, Chad Porsch was the sixth-place finisher in the 800 with a time of 1:57.30, Dean Cameron was sixth in the 400 hurdles at 56.23 and Key Addison was seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.74.
The Black Hills State track teams are back in action Thursday when they travel to California to take part in the Mount Sac Relays.
