Hellman wins heptathlon at Multi-Championships

DICKINSON, N.D. — Shannon Hellman of Black Hills State won the heptathlon and Sean Pickstock of Dickinson State won the decathlon at the Dakota Athletic Conference Multi-Championships held on Sunday and Monday at Whitney Stadium.

Hellman, an all-state performer in high school for the Douglas Patriots, as well as a college All-American for South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State, captured four firsts in the seven events as she amassed 4,458 points.

Leah Sperry of Dickinson State was second with 3,850 points with LaShay Bagsby of Minot State placing third with 3,783 points.

Lisa Koch of Black Hills State came in seventh place with 3,263 points and teammate Kristi Bowers tallied 3,037 points for eighth place in the heptathlon.

Hellman won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81 seconds, the high jump with a jump of 5-feet-3-3/4 inches as well as the 200 (25.57) and 800 (2.36.96).

Bagsby won the other three women’s events; the shot put, long lump and javelin.

Pickstock edged Josh Ewalt of Jamestown College by 102 points, 5,879 to 5,777, to win the men’s title.

Shane Long of Black Hills State finished third compiling 5,563 points.

Pickstock captured the 100-meter dash, the long jump and 400 for the Blue Hawks.

Ewalt won the shot put, discus and the pole vault, Ulysses Dalton of Minot State won the shot put and 110 hurdles with Nathan Horgeshimer picked up firsts in the high jump and the 1,500.
