JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Black Hills State University softball team went 2-0 on the first day of the Dakota Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets downed Dakota State 8-5 before holding on for a 4-3 win over Minot State in the second game of the day.

BHSU will face Dickinson State today at 12:30 p.m. with the winner of the game advancing to the championship game while the loser will play for third place.

The Yellow Jackets were up 4-0 against the Beavers before they put three runs on the board. However, BHSU closed the door with the bases still loaded.

Karissa Norte got the win for BHSU as she got some great defensive help from Kim Flaman who turned a pair of double plays and had six straight putouts at one point during the day.

The Yellow Jackets' bats were working all day long. After falling behind 3-0 against Dakota State in the top of the first, BHSU tied the game up thanks to back-to-back home runs from Brittany Montgomery and Danielle McGrath.

BHSU played a strong game despite having the tournament pushed back a day due to poor weather conditions on Friday.

"That extra day was good for us because it gave us time to focus on what we had to do," BHSU head coach Amy Gurney said. "Our offense was really working today."
