SPEARFISH — Led by medalist Paige Osterloo's  score of 41, Rapid City Stevens won the third day of competition and captured the overall team title at the West River Challenge golf tournament Tuesday at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.

The Raiders carded a 182 on Tuesday, finishing the three-day tourney with a 538. Sturgis took runner-up honors with a 576, including a 197 for Tuesday’s round. Spearfish was third with a 636. The Spartans tallied a 205 in the final round. Douglas took fourth place with a 795.

Osterloo edged Sturgis’ Megan McDougal by one stroke, 41-42, for the lowest score on the third day of the tournament. Molly Rezich of Stevens was third with a 44. Hayley Decker of Spearfish posted a fourth place score of 46. Molly Webster of Stevens was fifth, shooting a 47.

Osterloo’s 119 was the best score for the three day tournament. She was 10 strokes ahead of McDougal (129).

“Today was just an off day for me,” Osterloo said. “I didn’t hit the greens and my putts were off a little bit.”

“This (Spearfish) course is hard for the kids,” Stevens coach Phil Hunt said. “Paige improved by four shots from the last time we played here.

“We had a couple of good scores from our younger kids.”

Sturgis had five golfers earn top 15 finishes in the final individual standings. Joining McDougal were Kelsey Emme, sixth, 147; Brianna Dodge, eighth, 151; Megan Merwin, ninth, 154; and Alyssa Gouldin, 11th, 160.

Stevens and Spearfish each had four linksters collect top 15 finishes.

Capturing the honors for the Raiders were Molly Webster, third, 135; Katelyn Belzer, fifth, 143; and Erin Cheever, seventh, 149.

Notching places for the Spartans were: Hayley Decker, fourth, 141; Sami Stadel, 10th, 160; Erin Cole, 12th, 166; and Jenna Crosswait, 14th, 169.

Rapid City Central and Douglas each had one golfer in the top 15. Taylor Warren led the Cobblers with a score of 168 for 13th. Brooke Schafer of Douglas was 15th with a 175.

Central and Stevens tangle in dual competition in the All-City tournament at Red Rock Golf Course today, Hart Ranch on Thursday and Arrowhead Golf Course on Friday.
