SPEARFISH — The Wyoming girls all-star basketball team rallied from a loss to South Dakota on Friday night — and an early deficit Saturday — to take a 93-88 victory over the home team at the Donald E. Young Center.

South Dakota jumped on the Wyoming team early, taking a 7-2 lead just minutes into the game, but the Wyoming team got a jumpstart from Sheridan’s Erika Stender off the bench to take a 46-38 lead into the half. Stender scored 15 of her game-high 24 points in the first half after scoring just two points — on two free throws — in her team’s 84-79 loss in Gillette on Friday night. The big game came in what looks to be Stender’s final competitive basketball game as she is headed to Michigan State University on a full-ride academic scholarship.

“She came out and hit some 3s, hit a few jumpers and just really sparked us,” Wyoming head coach Tom Schrupp, the junior varsity coach at Campbell County High School said. “But it was a good game for us in that everybody brought something to the table. Last night it was kind of the Kelsey Scott show and everybody else stood around watching. Tonight we got into a good flow and had everybody playing hard and contributing.”

The Cowboy State all-stars had four players register double figures in scoring. In addition to Stender, Cheyenne’s Chelsey Lybeck scored 18, Torrington’s Mandy Mullock dropped 17 and Lander’s Dani White had 16 points.

“They really hurt us inside last night so we came out concentrating on stopping that tonight,” South Dakota head coach Jeff Krolikowski said. “We wanted to shut the inside game down and make them beat us from the outside, which turned out to be not such a good idea. They won it where they needed to. They shot it very well tonight.”

Colman-Egan’s Cami Koehn led the South Dakota All-Stars with 23 points on the night. Bennett County’s Keely Krolikowski added 19, Parkston’s Maggie Malloy chipped in with 13 and Leola-Frederick’s Mikayla Barondeau had 10.

“Give the South Dakota kids credit,” Schrupp said. “They are great shooters and they really made us earn it. Any time we went under a pick they made us pay. We had to play really solid defense on their shooters.”

Malloy left the floor with just over three minutes to go in the game with an ice pack on her right shoulder. She did not return to action.
