Oglala Lakota College will confer degrees on 155 students at its 35th annual graduation program, 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22.

David R. Emery, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Black Hills Corp. in Rapid City, will be the keynote speaker. He is a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, and last year, on behalf of his family, he presented the college with a collection of more than 300 audio recordings by his grandfather, the late James Emery, of Lakota orators and singers.

"He is a good example of a modern-day warrior and is a good role model for our youth. He is educated and continues to maintain his traditions as well, enriching the lives of those around him in the corporate world and on the reservations," OLC president Thomas Shortbull said.

Activities related to the 35th graduation include the GED graduation at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 19, and baccalaureate dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, June 20, both at the Piya Wiconi Math & Science Building. The graduation wacipi (powwow) and contest will be held June 20-22, with a 10K/5K walk/run at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21.

For more information about the powwow, call Theresa Lone Hill at 605-455-6085 or Mia Albers at 455-6016.

Oglala Lakota College is a four-year accredited tribal college with nine college centers on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, one on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, and a learning center in Rapid City, serving more than 1,500 students a semester.
