RAPID CITY -- A perjury charge filed against Jamee Corean in Pennington County is on hold until after her August kidnapping trial in Belle Fourche.
Corean, 28, is charged with kidnapping and accessory to murder in 4th Circuit Court in connection with the July 2004 disappearance of Troy Klug, 26, Rapid City. She is scheduled to go on trial Aug. 11 in Belle Fourche.
Fourth Circuit Judge John Bastian has not ruled on whether hearsay and co-conspirator testimony will be allowed at her trial.
Corean also is accused in 7th Circuit Court of lying on the witness stand during the 2005 trial of Tory Teigen, who was convicted of kidnapping Klug and is serving a 100-year prison sentence.
On Tuesday, 7th Circuit Judge Merton Tice set a status hearing in Corean’s perjury case for Aug. 29. Corean’s defense attorney, Mitch Johnson, said they would waive her right to a speedy trial.
Corean’s former boyfriend, James Kusick, pleaded guilty to accessory to murder and to perjury earlier this year and was sentenced to 20 years total in prison.
Teigen was convicted of kidnapping Klug from a Rapid City home where Klug went to buy drugs. Klug was then taken to Belle Fourche, where prosecutors believe he was tortured and killed a couple of days later. Kusick testified that Teigen brought Klug, who was bound and gagged, to the home Kusick and Corean shared in Belle Fourche. As a result of those circumstances, the case has generated charges in two counties.
Corean is in custody pending trial.
