Historian will speak on plains life

A Native American historian and a Teddy Roosevelt impressionist will give upcoming presentations at Devils Tower National Monument.
Native American historian, replica maker, author and actor/stuntman Michael Terry will appear at Devils Tower on Sunday, June 29, and Monday, June 30.
Terry, who is of Seminole descent, will give an overall picture of what 18th and 19th Century Plains life was like for Natives. Terry provides an objective overview of Native American history and the effect of westward migration on those cultures, according to a news release from monument headquarters.
Terry will deliver three programs on June 29: from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On June 30, Terry will make presentations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The presentations will take place outdoors near the Devils Tower Visitor Center.
Terry has worked in many capacities on more than 30 films including “Dances With Wolves,” “Geronimo,” “Indian in the Cupboard” and “Last of the Mohicans.”
As a replica maker, he recreates material culture items for museums, artists and films.
On Wednesday, July 2, Theodore Roosevelt impressionist Gib Young will present “An Evening with Mr. Theodore Roosevelt” at 4 p.m. near the Devils Tower Visitor Center and at 8 p.m. in the Devils Tower Amphitheatre.
Young will recount Roosevelt’s time spent in the Dakotas, and how Roosevelt formulated his ideas on conservation and the duty of citizenship and stewardship.
There is no charge for the programs but there is an entrance fee of $10 per vehicle into the monument.
